Light up Lyneham is an enchanting community event that illuminates Lyneham Shops and Wetlands with a dazzling display of lights, colour, and joy. Residents and visitors gather to witness the transformation of the Lyneham Wetlands into a magical wonderland. Vibrant installations, shimmering lanterns, and captivating projections adorn the route of the Lantern Walk, creating a sense of wonder and unity. The event showcases the artistic talents of local residents and celebrates the spirit of togetherness. From illuminated sculptures to interactive light shows, Light up Lyneham offers a memorable experience for all ages, bringing warmth and cheer to the heart of the community.

Community performers and stallholders are the heart and soul of any vibrant event, injecting energy and showcasing the unique talents of local residents. These individuals bring a sense of authenticity and connection to the community, captivating audiences with their performances and offerings. From musicians and dancers to street artists and theatre groups, community performers add a touch of magic to the atmosphere, fostering a sense of togetherness and cultural appreciation. Stallholders, on the other hand, offer a diverse range of products and services, from handmade crafts and delicious food to informational booths and local initiatives, enriching the event experience and supporting local businesses. Together, community performers and stallholders create a dynamic and engaging environment that truly reflects the spirit of the community.

Sustainability and Waste

This year Light Up Lyneham is collaborating with the SEE Change WasteLess team on sustainability and waste. Here is what the team of passionate waste management volunteers has in store:

  • We encourage you to Bring Your Own mugs/cups and cutlery. Our SEE Change stall will have a wash station where you can clean your BYO items.
  • Our SEE Change stall will also have a small selection of reusable food dishes, ceramic mugs, and metal cutlery for visitors to borrow then return after use.
  • Bin stations will be clearly labelled and accompanied by volunteers, who can assist you in determining which bin your item belongs in.
  • The bin stations will include an organics bin for all food waste and paper containers, which will be sent to a local farmer for composting.
  • The bin stations will include a bin for containers in the 10c deposit scheme for the benefit of Lyneham Primary School.
  • Lids4Kids will be collecting lids from containers at the event and will have a stall selling and swapping their Zero Waste Warriors tubs so you can collect lids for recycling at home.
If you would like to find out more, please email Peter at wasteless@seechange.org.au.

Don't lose your child!

Your children are your responsibility. Here are some tips on keeping your child safe. Applicability will obviously depend on the age of your child. Wristbands are available for free at the LCA stall.

  • Agree beforehand on a meeting point if separated.
  • Write your phone number on a wristband (available from LCA stall) or on the child’s arm.
  • Keep an eye on your child at all times.
  • Remind your child of the risks (cars, roads, water, strangers).
  • Don’t allow your child to run ahead of the Mountain Lion on the lantern walk.
  • If you become separated, go to the LCA tent.
  • An LCA volunteer (fluoro jacket) will stay with a lost child and contact the LCA tent.
