Draft Territory Plan Amendment DPA-12

We’ve been very pleased with the response to our previous mail out to members, and to the wider leaflet delivering to all letterboxes in Lyneham and north O’Connor. At the time of writing, over 250 people have made a submission from the web page we set up, and the number continues to grow.

Thanks to the team of volunteers who delivered the leaflets.

We had asked the Territory Planning Authority, and the responsible Minister, Chris Steel, to pause the consultation process for DPA-12 until the outcome of BCC’s appeal in the Supreme Court was known. We felt that some people’s view of the proposed amendment might be influenced by the outcome of the appeal. Unfortunately the Minister seemed to deliberately miss the point, stating he did “not think it is reasonable to deny the community the opportunity to provide comments on the proposal”.

Clean Up Australia Day, 1 March 2026, Lyneham Wetlands

Thanks to those people who turned up for our Clean Up Australia Day clean up the Lyneham Wetlands. We collected four bags of general rubbish, and one of recycling.

The AGM of the Lyneham Community Association will be held at the Lyneham Primary School Staffroom on Sunday 17 May 2026, at 2pm.

The AGM will consider reports on the previous year, and provide an opportunity to discuss the direction the LCA should take in future. The AGM will also elect a new committee.

Nominations are now open for all positions on the committee. Under our constitution, nominations received by 2pm on 10 May (7 days or more before the AGM) may automatically see the person elected to the position. See lyneham.org.au/about for details.

The LCA is offering two guided walks of the Lyneham and O’Connor Heritage Trail as part of the ACT Heritage Festival. Find out some of the history of the area from its colonial settlement days and the creation of the suburb as we know it from the 1960s.

1. Heritage Walk #1 – Sunday 12 April – covers the southern part of the Trail.

2. Heritage Walk #2 – Saturday 2 May – covers the northern part of the Trail.

Registration is essential at walk #1 and walk #2.

A small fee applies. Numbers are limited.

The Trail was the result of a successful grant application and a lot of work by a previous LCA committee member a few years ago.

Call For Volunteers

Light Up Lyneham runs on the valuable assistance of volunteers. Although we have a small, experienced organising team, there are no paid staff. Almost 100 volunteers helped out last year.

If you’d like to be involved in bringing this year’s event to fruition, please let us know. You can register online, or email lightuplyneham@lyneham.org.au.

We’ll find a task to your liking, either on the day, or beforehand.

Eleven volunteers came along to the Sunday 22 March session which was great and we got a lot done in a short time. We dug a few more swales and trenches to combat the stormwater runoff coming down the hill on the basketball court side of the track. We planted more than 30 plants from Lainie and David Shorthouse – they included Lomandra, Dianella and Kangaroo Grass. We are experimenting with some Chocolate Lilies which can be a bit tricky and also with a Bossaiea greyi which is endangered. While not a local species it is from the region and we are interested in whether it will grow in our conditions. We also did weeding particularly of African Love Grass and couch.
