BREAKING NEWS
The ACT Government has closed the toilet block at the shops in preparation for demolition work to commence on Monday (27 Sep) as part of a two month program to replace the toilets with modern, water-efficient facilities. City Services have invited the LCA (among others) to be part of discussions looking at options for artwork to go on the exterior of the building. We hope to be able to tap into your thoughts and ideas as part of that process. We’ll get back to you with more details later.

Plan to Help A major issue that has been brewing for some time within the NCCC (North Canberra Community Council) and other Community Councils is the ACT Government’s Planning System Review and Reform Project which involves a rewrite of the ACT’s planning legislation, the Territory Plan and how proposed developments will be assessed. The Community Councils are concerned that while the project is being pursued with the objective of simplifying the ACT’s planning system and making it easier to understand, the end result will be that the planning rules will be made more flexible with less controls to prevent inappropriate development. Draft legislation is due at the end of this year or early next year and it would be great if anyone could help in reviewing the proposed changes. Send us an email (contact@lyneham.org.au) if you can help. |

We’re looking for someone, perhaps with an interest in planning issues and the way the inner north is being developed, to be an LCA representative with the NCCC (North Canberra Community Council). Flick us an email if that might be you. |
