Wishing everyone a safe, happy and relaxing Christmas break.

Successful Grant Application
We are delighted to have been granted $5000 from Events ACT to help enrich Light Up Lyneham. Funding will be used to purchase reusable illuminated displays to complement the existing successful components of the event, and display support structures to simplify construction of displays by our team and other community members, and to hire or buy marquees to provide shelter to performers and stage audiences, and to hire heating to allow entertainers to perform more comfortably as the evening cools.

The date in the Supreme Court to hear BCC’s appeal against the ACAT order last year to close its illegal carpark has been set for 22 and 23 April 2025.

Many of the other actions involving BCC may end up having a bearing on their Supreme Court appeal. For example, many of you will have seen recent calls from BCC teachers for the board to resign. Separately, a decision by Education Minister Berry, originally expected a week or two ago is now expected before Christmas. Keep an eye on Riot Act and the Canberra Times for an announcement.

Mark in your diaries – Clean Up Australia Day is on Sunday 2 March 2025. This year the LCA will clean up the parks and open space in North Lyneham. We will be meeting in Montford Crescent park next to the North Lyneham shops at 9.30 am. All welcome.

Do you know you can report any issues in the neighborhood to the ACT Government’s Fix My Street page online? Issues and concerns such as: damaged or blocked paths, request tree planting, reporting graffiti and litter etc. Go to https://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/city-services/fix-my-street

Lyneham Commons

Gazebo and table for loan

If you’re holding a social or community event and need a 3m x 3m portable gazebo or 2m long folding table, LCA now have them for short-term loan to members.

Just send an email to contact@lyneham.org.au with your dates a week or two in advance. There is no charge but a refundable bond of $50 will be required.

We love new members, and want even more! Please encourage your local friends and neighbours to join. The more members we have, the more support we can provide each other and the more attention we can get from our politicians.

Joining is free and open to everyone over 16 years of age, living in Lyneham or north O’Connor (north of Macarthur Avenue). Join online at lyneham.org.au/join.
