Happy New Year

The traditional Lyneham Doggie Xmas Party was a great success, we even had some beautiful people, and dogs, come over from our neighbouring suburb in O’Connor. Great to see our community spirit being widened across the ‘burbs. This event is now in it’s 5th year and keeps getting bigger and better. We plan to ‘upscale’ for a truly bone-worthy event next year!

2016 poses some interesting times.

The impending demolition and sale of great swathes of Northbourne Ave. for new developments to offset the cost of light rail, which according to the ACT Gov hoardings on the fences will result in amongst other things, ‘better communities’.  We hope these aspirations are upheld. This development will invariably ‘seep’ laterally into the suburb and has already to some extent, with DeBurgh and Berrigan Cres now largely developed. There will be more to come. We’d love to hear your views on how we can work to make a ‘better community’ out of all this. Comment below or write to us/

Brindabella Christian College are likely to seek a recommencement of discussions  with the respective stakeholders regarding options for their much desired Sports Hall on the LNO.

Traffic along Brigalow St. which fronts the shops and two schools is an ongoing issue, as is the parking constraints in this precinct in an increasingly busy suburb. Impacts from developments along Northbourne are likely to increase rat running and parking constraints throughout our streets.

The Lyneham Service Station site is undergoing remediation and will eventually add to the streetscape as another development site.

There will undoubtedly be other issues that arise throughout the year and we look forward to the continued active support of the Lyneham residents in seeking to keep our environs lovable and liveable.

We hope you’ve made the time to assist with watering the fantastic Lyneham Commons over the hot periods, supported your local Lyneham businesses at the shops over the festive period, and if you haven’t heard, there is a move afoot to have our nature strips made available for growing. This is a great initiative.

See you all soon,

….somewhere in Lyneham.
